More Toys at the library

News

On February 20th February 2025, members of the committee and two Strathblane Heritage members set up another mini pop-up museum in the Thomas Graham Community Library.

This time they were there to show off the toys they played with as children to all the P1 -3 pupils of Strathblane Primary School.

Librarian Lynne James, the moving force behind the event, worked with a class in the library with stories and activities on the theme of toys, while a second class visited the ‘museum’ where each of the contributors talked about a favourite toy. Then groups of pupils moved round each table to examine the toys more closely and handle those which weren’t too fragile.

Margaret Vass brought her father’s wonderful 100 year old trike. Steve Parfitt’s 70 year old jumping barking dog was a big hit as was Anne Balfour’s doll’s house.

We managed to repeat this four times in the course of the afternoon with 4 different classes.

The school pupils responded enthusiastically and we really enjoyed reading their colourful thank-you cards. Here is Hannah’s.

Thanks are due to everyone concerned, including the school staff and pupils for the success of this event.
