Strathblane Heritage Trail

News

GREAT NEWS!

We’ve been successful in raising the £16,000 that we reckon is needed to create a Heritage Trail around Strathblane.

We’ve secured generous grants from two supportive local charity foundations: £8,000 from the Killearn-based Paul Charitable Trust, and £5,000 from the Hugh Fraser Foundation, run by the family of the former store magnate Sir Hugh Fraser who lived at Dineiddwg House, Mugdock.

Together with funds from Strathblane Heritage’s own resources, this now enables the project to proceed.  It will comprise six information boards placed at prominent historical locations around a 2-mile route, starting at the Parish Church, Campsie Road, then heading west along the main road, down Station Road and back to Edenkiln via the Gary Wright Way. All the boards will be linked to this website. The route will incorporate the existing sign about the Blane Valley Railway.

Alastair Balfour, SH co-chair, said: “This exciting project will put our village on the map for visitors who want to understand the remarkable history of the Blane Valley, as well as locals who want to find out more about what happened in these places. We hope it will also bring more customers to our local shops and eating places.”

The plan is to start work later this autumn and be ready to launch the Trail in spring 2026.

The Railway Path sign on the Gary Wright Way will be incorporated into the new Strathblane Heritage Trail
